Rules
All players must be 18 years of age or older.
Exceptions can be made for those under 18 years of age with parent consent.
A team may have a maximum of eight (6) players on its roster.
All teams must have a team roster with the signature of all players on their team. If a player is not on the roster, they will not be allowed to play.
ONLY PAID PLAYERS WILL BE ALLOWED TO PLAY IN THE PLAYOFF (A sub can play in the playoff, if the sub played in 1 games during the regular season).
Rally scoring is used. Matches will consist of 2 sets = 1 games
The two games are to 25 points (cap is 27 points).
This is a 4 team player league. There must be 1 women on the court at all times.
Substitutions may occur anytime the ball is dead. Time-outs are not required for substitutions.
You cannot block or spike a serve. This will result in a point for the serving team.
Successive contacts may only be made after blocking a spike attempt
Players may interchange positions to pass or block, only after the serve.
All passes must be clearly hit, and not lifted or thrown.
Blocks do not count as a hit.
Serve Receive Rule: The side who is receiving the ball after the first serve may NOT receive it with open hands. This means you must have your hands together (one hand over another - no open sets) or the receive is not valid and the point is awarded to the other team. (If further explanation is needed please see the manager)
(***NEW***) Pushing Ball over the Net: A player completes an attack-hit using an overhand pass which has trajectory not perpendicular to the line of the shoulders. The exeception is when the payer is attempting to set to his or her teammate.
No player may reach over or touch the net, or step over the centerline (a player's foot may land on the centerline provided it is not entirely over the line). Also, while playing the ball in his/her court, a player is allowed to reach under the net, but must not touch the floor over the centerline.
Opponents simultaneously hitting the ball directly over the net may play the ball again if it falls into their court.
Each team is allowed one 30-second time-outs per game.
Our Scenario
This league ranks its teams based on one piece of information first and if there is a tie it moves onto a second piece of information. The first piece of information is the win percentage. How many games has the team played compared to how many they have won. If that is tied with another team, it then moves onto the point differential. The point differential takes the points they have earned and subtracts the points other teams have earned against them. You can use any information as the first comparison and then the second for tie-breaking, but this is our scenario to give you some context.
Setting Up The Team Standings
SP (Sets Played): First we have to tally up the amount of sets they have played. We are counting these from each week, and we are using to record the scores within the games.
W (Sets Won): Wins will go through those sets played and see which ones are the winning sets. Our league caps the games at a certain score for time restriction purposes. So we check to see if the first two sets have reached 25 and the third reached 15. If any of those are 25 or 15, that team has won the set. If you aren’t capping your sets, you will have to write the calculation to figure out which team actually won.
W% (Win Percentage): Divide the wins by the sets played to get the teams win percentage.
PF (Points Earned): Tally the points the team has earned.
PA (Points Allowed): Tally the points other teams have earned against them. In ours, when we record the scores, we require our stats volunteer to enter the number of the opponent in from of each match so we can gather these.
PD (Point Differential): Subtract the Point Allowed from the Points Earned.
